About Us
The Kaapai Story
It started with a single question: Why should the tools of collecting be less inspiring than the collection itself?
Back in 2013, in Edinburgh, Scotland, our founder — a lifelong trading card player and collector — grew frustrated with the flimsy, forgettable card boxes and sleeves available on the market. Card protectors were either too brittle or too plain. Storage solutions were functional but boring. Display options for prized cards and figurines? Almost nonexistent.
So he decided to build what collectors actually deserved: gear that protects, organizes, and celebrates your collection.
That’s how Kaapai was born.
Named after the kakapo — the world’s only flightless parrot, known for its rarity, charm, and unexpected resilience — our brand embodies the same spirit: uncommon, grounded, and unforgettable. (Yes, we sometimes go by KakapopoTCG in certain circles. It’s the same flock.)
Over the years, what started as one man’s hobby project grew into a global brand trusted by thousands of collectors across the world. Today, Kaapai offers a complete ecosystem for trading card enthusiasts and figurine collectors:
- Card Protection – sleeves, top loaders, hard cases that keep your cards safe from wear and tear.
- Storage & Organization – lockable storage boxes, adjustable dividers, portfolios, and portable deck cases.
- Display & Trading Cases – premium display cases for showcasing your best cards while keeping them protected.
- Figurine & Collectible Cabinets – high‑transparency display cabinets with adjustable shelves, designed for handpainted figurines, pop culture statues, and blind box collectibles.
We don’t just make products. We build the infrastructure of the collecting lifestyle — from the first sleeved card to the final display cabinet.
And we’re just getting started.
Our Mission
To empower every collector — from weekend duelists to museum‑level archivists — with thoughtful, beautiful, and durable tools that elevate their collection.
What We Stand For
| Values | Statement |
|---|---|
| Collector‑First | Every design decision starts with a real collector’s need. If it doesn’t serve the collection, it doesn’t belong. |
| Quality Without Compromise | From premium PET sleeves to solid wood display boxes, we source materials that protect and endure. No shortcuts. |
| Timeless Design | We avoid fads. Our products look as good on a store shelf as they do in your home for years. |
| Community Over Competition | Kaapai exists because of collectors. We listen, iterate, and give back to the TCG and collectibles community. |
| Playful Spirit | The kakapo is a funny, quirky bird — and we never forget that collecting is supposed to be fun. |
Designed for Collectors, Engineered for Real Life
Every Kaapai product starts with a simple observation: How do collectors actually use this?
We prototype, test with real TCG players, and obsess over the small things:
- Card safety – Rounded interior corners, soft linings, and exact‑fit dimensions prevent edge wear.
- Stackability – Our storage boxes nest perfectly, saving shelf space in your game room.
- Visibility – High‑clarity acrylic and thoughtfully placed windows let you see your collection without exposing it.
- Transport – Secure latches, handle designs, and lightweight materials make it easy to take your cards to tournaments or trade meets.
- Modularity – Adjustable dividers and stackable components grow with your collection.
Our design team draws inspiration from fantasy, adventure, and vintage artifacts — because your cards and figurines deserve a home that tells a story, not a bland plastic bin.
Collecting for the Long Run
We believe in protecting more than just cards — we care about the planet too.
- Eco‑conscious materials – Where possible, we use recycled cardboard, FSC‑certified wood, and PET sleeves that are fully recyclable.
- Minimal, plastic‑free packaging – We ship your products in protective packaging that’s designed to be reused or recycled.
- Built to last – A Kaapai product that breaks is a failure. We engineer for decades of use, not single seasons.
- Community giving – A portion of our proceeds goes to local game store support and youth TCG programs.
